Breaking the Fast

This is more dangerous than the fast since you have to ease into eating if you have not for awhile. Dr Fuhrman suggests breaking long fasts with juicy fruits. On first day, fist sized watermelon or half an orange every 2 hours. Eat slowly. Fresh squeezed juice can be added. On 2nd day, a medium sized piece of fruit or melon every 3 hours. On 3rd day, 4 meals of above. On 4th day, 3 small meals of fruit, salad and cooked vegetable like a potato. With short 5 day fasts, after eating fruit and waiting 15 minutes you can eat a salad with raw vegetables. This will help to clean out the colon. You can then, on the next day, eat some healthy cooked food like greens.
People can take an enema before beginning the fast so they won't have all that sitting in there during the fast. But it is not necessary since after a 5 day or longer fast your colon is working much better. My e-mail address is on home page.

Dental Problems


I had drilling near the root of tooth to repair it. About 6 months later, the tooth was hurting a lot. The root was dying and it got infected even though there was no decay in the tooth. I had a root canal and it got infected. The first antibiotic did not work and my face was swollen and they say the infection can enter the brain. The other antibiotic he prescribed was giving me bad headaches so I stopped taking it. I called a fasting expert and paid him $100 to talk to him for an hour. He told me to just fast and that maybe if I had done that before the root canal it may have saved the tooth. So after fasting 4 or 5 days it had totally cleared up. Then I had drilling near the root of another tooth and around 6 months later it was hurting, was infected and dying. So I had it pulled (extracted).
The same exact thing happened with another tooth months after there was drilling near a root. This time I did not even go to the dentist. I fasted 4 or 5 days and it was better. Then a year later, the same tooth was doing that again and I was in a lot of pain. I fasted 4 or 5 days and all the pain went away. That was a few years ago. So if you have a tooth dying but no decay, then fasting may help with it. The dentist said that they do not know why teeth like the above die but it seems to be associated with drilling a cavity close to the root.

The Inner Intelligence of the Body


When it comes to evolution the 2 most powerful desires of animals are eating and sex. This is to make sure that the animal survives and that the species survives. But unlike other animals humans have a divine soul. The existence of these 2 opposing forces creates a third thing that is the human mind and is what causes the problems. As you fast more, the inner intelligence of the of the body becomes more awakened and it can help you with your health. Also you learn things that are more certain than the different opinions or conflicting research results. Remember that an FDA approved study costing millions of dollars and that is more conclusive than all these other studies showed that Vioxx was a safe drug before taking it off the market since it was killing many people.
As I fast more I see how the body's intelligence cares only about the health of my body but my mind is more interested in enjoying the tastes of foods. Americans eat much more food than they need. They are then concerned about having a metabolism that is too slow. But if they had the inner peace, happiness and satisfaction they would not be needing the enjoyment of eating so much and then could eat only what they need. Then a slow metabolism is like having a car that gets 200 miles per hour. They could then eat a lot less and therefore have more time and money to do other things.
Personally I can spend less time feeding my belly and spend more time doing altruistic acts (helping other people). The page Prescription for Happiness tells how Positive Psychology learned that this makes people much happier. During a 22 day fast I spent most of the time on forums answering questions from people who needed help with different things. I have spent a great deal of time in the past reading about self improvement including health, psychology and religion. This is something that I love doing.
In the 70s many health experts had different opinions but there was one thing they agreed on-- the less you ate, the longer you lived. It is like the real age of your body is based on how much you have ever eaten. Then there was a study done with rats that showed that the rats that ate less, lived much longer. That was the only thing that a study ever proved to extend life or cause anti-aging. There is a new study that was just concluded. The rhesus monkeys that ate 30% less than the other monkeys lived longer. Also a Psychology Today Magazine had an article about a group that tries to extend life by consuming minimum calories.
Now with all the above I suggest that when people eat to lose weight, they should not limit calories. This is because forcing yourself to eat less than you want creates stress. This stress is worse for your health than anything else and it diminishes your peace of mind and happiness which are more important than anything else. So my suggestion is to work on your peace of mind, mental health and your satisfaction. Then you will have less of a need for food. Another reason I do not recommend forcing yourself to eat less is because most of the food people eat is for their emotions not for their body.
So I consume a lot less food than others because I am busy doing things that I love and I am not bored. I have a great deal of inner satisfaction. Now you can try the following and learn something for yourself. Take a kid at that age where he knows that fun is the most important thing. Have him do something that he loves doing for all day like going on rides at an amusement park. You can ask him all throughout the day if he is hungry and he will say "no." He is not lying. Then take him on an errand that is very boring. You will not have to ask him if he is hungry. Every few hours he will be asking to eat something to relieve the boredom.
I have learned about mankind from fasting. Say tomorrow that humans no longer needed to eat food and they lost the ability to eat or taste food. In 6 months most of the people on the planet will have committed suicide. Our society it is built around food. Jesus had his last supper. Thanksgiving is based around food. What would wedding and funeral receptions be without food? It was only after Jesus fasted for 40 days did he go out and start healing people and preaching to people. When the devil tried to get him to stop his fast, do you think it was a red man with horns and a tail. No, it was his own mind wanting him to eat some delicious tasting food. An MD I know has noticed the connection between depression and being overweight.

Food for Thought for Even Fasting Experts


All the fasting experts talk about how the need for food is all psychological like fear, boredom, unhappiness and misery causing hunger. This is known as false hunger. Then after fasting around 40 days, they experience true hunger, when the body then actually physically needs food. Their tongue clears and the hunger is different. All of them leave out the physical side of false hunger. If it were all psychological, then why does it end after eating?
When someone is almost full, there is a pain (discomfort) that begins. If they ignore it totally, they can eat enough to burst open the stomach. So as they eat more and more when they are full, the pain gets worse and worse. When it is bad enough, then the person feels satisfied that he has had enough. At that point the pain is not worth the enjoyment of eating. Romans were said to vomit up the food so they could enjoy eating more. So people associate the pain with being satisfied. Then when their stomach is empty, they associate that with being very hungry.

Since I eat only one meal a day, people have asked me for years if I am hungry and the answer is no. I am totally comfortable with an empty stomach, while others are driven mad by an empty stomach. Of course for many if they go too long without eating, they get healing symptoms of fasting (accelerated release of toxins) which can cause fatigue, dizziness, sick feeling or feeling like you were poisoned. So they imagine their blood sugar is too low. I used to get that all the time if I went hours past the time of my one meal a day. Now I never get those feelings no matter how long I go without eating.

Here is something that fasting experts never talk about. If someone were to only eat what he needs, here is how you do it. You fast until true hunger even if it takes 50 days. Then break the fast. But at this point people can eat all they want to. But to only eat the minimum after you break the fast, then you do another fast. But for how long. Nobody knows. You do it until true hunger returns. Then when you break that fast you start another one until until true hunger begins. You then keep doing that if you wanted to really eat what the body needs. But no one wants to just eat the minimum.

The Biggest Nutrition Myth Ever

This article is about a nutrition myth from over 20 years ago that is still confusing nutrition experts. This webpage with nutrition articles was created November 1, 2008. Mark Hyman, MD, editor in chief of the medical journal Alternatives in Health and Medicine says (page 66 Bottom Line Yearbook 2008), "Eat the complex carbohydrates-- vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans and whole grains. These tend to have low glycemic loads, which means they are absorbed slowly and don't raise blood sugar quickly, so you feel full longer. Refined carbs, such as white flour, rice and pasta, along with sugary foods, make your blood sugar spike so you will feel hungry sooner."

Andrew L Rubman, N.D., is associate professor of clinical medicine. Richard A Anderson, PhD, is a research scientist at Human Nutrition Research Center. Their article in the Bottom Line Health News (2008) says "Curb your simple carbs. Cut back on high sugar and refined foods which include bread, pasta, bagels, crackers, white rice, cookies, candy and soda."
Webmd.com says (October 2008) "Get energy by eating complex carbohydrates (whole wheat pasta, brown or wild rice, whole-grain breads) and limit simple carbohydrates (regular soft drinks, sugar, sweets)."
Are you confused by the above? It is like saying that the president of the United States in October 2008 is George W Bush and the vice president is Donald Duck (a cartoon character). Is this true or not? In the first paragraph, fruit is not a complex carbohydrate, but is a simple carbohydrate. Then this medical doctor says to avoid rice and pasta, but they are complex carbohydrates. He says refined carbs but there are refined grains, not refined carbs (see below). Note that this nutritionist/MD, Dr. Hyman, is one of the most brilliant MDs around and I am a fan of his. He is sometimes on PBS TV.
In the second paragraph this naturopathic physician and nutrition research scientist say that bread, pasta and rice [by default this means white rice] are simple carbs. They are complex carbs. But they are right about soda being a simple carb.
Webmd.com gets a million visitors a day! They say to limit the junk food simple carbohydrates, but fruit is a simple carbohydrate and they do not mention it. So do they want you to limit it, since it is a simple carbohydrate? Under the complex carbohydrates they do not mention the unhealthy ones like pasta, rice and bread. So should you eat them since they are complex carbohydrates?
This is like saying that you should associate with black people since they are good like Rev. Martin Luther King and avoid white people since they are bad like Adolf Hitler. The above is nonsense. They should say that you should associate with good people and avoid bad people. The fact is that simple or complex does not matter, just like the color of one's skin does not matter.
Do you see the analogy [resemblance (similarity) in some particulars between things other-wise unlike]? There are good and bad black people, and good and bad white people. There is no reason to mention skin color or simple or complex. Please note that all the college textbooks on nutrition that I have seen, have this right about simple and complex carbohydrates.


The following has made this much more complex and confusing for people. Besides having complex carbohydrates (starches) or carbs and simple carbohydrates (sugars), you also have whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat (not whole rice and brown wheat) and the refined grains like wheat and rice. The whole grains are better for health since they still have the bran and germ that contains most of the nutrition and fiber. The refined grains do not have the above parts of the grain, but is left with one part (of the 3 parts) called the endosperm. Health food stores sell wheat bran and wheat germ.
They also divide the sugars into monosaccharides and disaccharides. This is like a single (mono) and a double (di) sugar. Now what if you were not familiar with these animals? There are men and women, roosters and chickens, and lions and lionesses. Then you may get them confused and say that the men mate (have sex) with the lionesses, the roosters mate with the women, and the lions mate with the chickens.
This has happened with the above. Search the internet now and look at all the references to simple sugars and complex sugars even though they do not exist. If they did exist then a simple sugar would be a simple simple carbohydrate since a sugar is a simple carbohydrate. Also a complex sugar would be a complex simple carbohydrate. Then instead of whole and refined grains, you get refined carbohydrates or refined carbs and whole carbs. You can also then invent single carbs and double grains.
Here is where the confusion originated from. By the way, the reason people say "God bless you" when you sneeze is because people used to think that a sneeze was evil spirits trying to occupy your body. Back in the 1980s they were still just discovering the glycemic index where they could measure how fast the sugar went into you blood from certain foods.
So at that time almost every health expert was saying to eat complex carbohydrates and not eat simple carbohydrates. Let me clear up these terms. Complex carbohydrates are also called starches. Simple carbohydrates are also called sugars. This has nothing to do with if it is a refined food or a natural one. Grains are mostly starch, while fruits are mostly sugar. So fruit is a simple carbohydrate (sugar).
Vegetables are a mix of starch and sugar.  For example sweet vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers are actually fruits. But then there are the real starchy vegetables like potatoes that people do not eat raw.

Pasta and bread (wheat) are a refined grain and not a whole grain. They are starches. Candies are sugars. Whole wheat is a whole grain and a starch. Fruits are sugars. The theory was that since the body must break down starches into sugar before they can enter the blood, they must enter the blood more slowly. This means it is healthier for you and not fattening when it enters the blood at a slower rate.
But the glycemic index discovery showed that this theory was all wrong. The sugar in fruit, fructose, enters the blood slowly. So there is no difference if the food is a sugar or starch when it comes to health and losing weight. But it is like the sneeze. They are still holding on to the myth.
What does matter is natural foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains are good for health and help keep you thin. Man made foods like refined grains (bread, pasta, and donuts), candy and soda are fattening and wreak havoc with your health.
Man made foods have added salt. Salt is fattening even though it has no calories (see home page on losing weight for explanation). Potatoes are healthy especially with added olive oil. They are one of the highest sources of potassium. Sweet potatoes have only half as much potassium. Put blackstrap molasses on top of sweet potatoes. A tablespoon of organic blackstrap molasses has 720 mg of potassium (non-organic has 360 mg).
But potato chips are unhealthy since the potatoes are fried and salted. It is now known that vegetable oils that are heated to high temperatures cause blindness in old age, called macular degeneration.

So all these experts and groups, like Weight Watchers and government groups were telling everyone a myth. But they never announced that they were completely wrong. So there should be no mention if something is a simple carb (sugar) or a complex carb (starch), unless you are in biology or nutrition class. It has nothing to do with anything practical. It is merely academic [having no practical or useful significance].
Now I knew that this was all wrong before they discovered the glycemic index. Here is how I knew. The body has to break down starches into sugars before it can enter the blood. But people have trouble eating the starch foods like rice, wheat flour or potatoes. They have to cook it first which changes it into a sugar. People do not eat uncooked rice, potatoes or wheat flour. I have a rule. All rules have exceptions, except some.
Here is an example of this myth in action. If this theory were correct then it would be better to eat an unripe fruit than a ripe fruit. So you should eat an unripe banana, while it is still a starch, instead of waiting for it to ripen and become a sugar. You can cook the unripe banana to make it into a sugar so that you can digest it. So you know that you should eat ripe fruit that are sweet and not unripe fruit.
Some fruits do not ripen so you can eat them anytime like apples, grapes and watermelon. Right after cantaloupe and honeydew ripen, they go bad. So the stores sell them weeks before they are ripe. You can wait for them to ripen. But they put them into fruit salads and they taste bad since they are not ripe. Then kids and adults say they do not like fruit.
So do not buy fruit salads with them. When honeydew is ripe, it tastes as sweet as honey. My grandfather would always say that. He owned a wholesale produce business and retired wealthy. He also would say that when the banana was extremely ripe, a little baby could eat it.

Carbohydrates are classified as simple or complex. The classification depends on the chemical structure of the particular food source and reflects how quickly the sugar is digested and absorbed. The above is like saying that there are black and white people and the classification depends on the color of their skin (race) and reflects on whether they are good people or bad people.]

Examples of single sugars from foods include fructose (found in fruits) and galactose (found in milk products). Double sugars include lactose (found in dairy), maltose (found in certain vegetables and in beer), and sucrose (table sugar). Honey is also a double sugar, but unlike table sugar, contains a small amount of vitamins and minerals. (NOTE: Honey should not be given to children younger than 1 year old.)

Complex carbohydrates, often referred to as "starchy" foods, include:

Whole grain breads and cereals
Starchy vegetables
Legumes

Simple carbohydrates that contain vitamins and minerals occur naturally in:
Fruits
Milk and milk products
Vegetables 

Simple carbohydrates are also found in processed and refined sugars such as:
Candy
Table sugar
Syrups (not including natural syrups such as maple)
Regular (non-diet) carbonated beverages, such as soda
Refined sugars provide calories, but lack vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Such simple sugars are often called "empty calories" and can lead to weight gain. Also, many refined foods, such as white flour, sugar, and polished rice, lack B vitamins and other important nutrients unless they are marked "enriched." It is healthiest to obtain carbohydrates, vitamins, and other nutrients in as natural a form as possible -- for example, from fruit instead of table sugar.

This is where I add more information for those who want to read it, without making the article any longer. I am usually not this smart, but I wrote the above on the 13th day of a fast of pure water (no minerals in it). I am writing this on the 15th day of that fast. Note that my webpage on Fasting says that a long fast like this should be done under a doctor's supervision trained for this to make sure your potassium levels (and for other reasons) do not drop too low. But I cannot afford that now. They do take health insurance (at least the MD in Philadelphia and the MD in New Jersey do).
Instead of cooking beans, you can sprout them. Cooking destroys some vitamins. Sprouting the beans increases the vitamin content dramatically. Heath food stores even sell Crunchy Sprouts. They are peas, cow (black-eyed) peas, chick peas (garbanzo beans), lentils and adzuki beans that have been sprouted for a few days.

They are crunchy like a snack and great to add to salads. This is the point in the plant's life that it is growing the fastest. I feel that these are the among the healthiest things that you can eat. I like the taste of them with added olive oil. Minerals cannot be destroyed by cooking. They are indestructible. You can burn the food to an ash and all the minerals are left. Minerals can never be destroyed, but can be changed into another mineral with nuclear fusion.
Seed sprouts are not crunchy, but broccoli sprouts have over 20 times the cancer fighting ability as broccoli. The John Hopkins University School of Medicine has bred a broccoli that is extra high in the phytochemicals that fight cancer. They patented it. It is sold in stores and is called Brocco Sprouts®. I saw that the Arizona company has a green tea drink with pomegranate. They are trying to make it appear healthy. But the main ingredient is high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). An internet search shows you that this is one of the worst things that you can put in your body. It is addictive and makes you fatter and crave food more. It destroys your health. But this is good business for the food companies. 
They want you to buy massive amounts of food and drink, even if you are having trouble paying for other things. Also when your health is ruined, then you need to buy drugs which helps the drug companies to make money. The only way to stop this is for consumers to become informed and stop buying these things.
There are healthy sweeteners that they can use like agave (a syrup from a cactus that enters the blood very slowly), honey, maple syrup, stevia and others. The Health Related Articles page has an article about this. The last thing that the food and drug companies want you to do is fast, since then they make no money at all. You then gain money. Ben Franklin said that a penny saved is a penny earned. He lived in Philadelphia. 

Health Benefits of Acai

This describes the many health benefits of this unique fruit and berry. The acai berry or fruit grows on palm trees in the Amazon rainforest. A 1999 study of three Amazonian populations found that acai made up as much as 42% (by weight) of the people's diet. Also webmd.com says "Anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help defend the body against life's stressors. They also play a role in the body's cell protection system. Free radicals are harmful byproducts produced by the body. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants may interfere with aging and the disease process by neutralizing free radicals. By lessening the destructive power of free radicals, antioxidants may help reduce the risk of some diseases, such as heart disease and cancer."

In the Swanson website below they now have their own brand of ecklonia cava extract with high quality and lowest price. They also sell other brands of it at below retail cost. They have a great deal of buying power since they sell a lot of supplements. They have been in business since 1969 (42 years).
I am not a big fan of vitamin/mineral supplements. It has been shown that most tablets pass through your digestive tract undigested. I told someone, who was a distributor for a company that sold vitamin/mineral supplements, that taking too many can cause a toxic overdose, that is if it is digested. She said that it is because of the fillers and preservatives. I then told her that the vitamins were the most dangerous things in supplements.
The number one cause of child poisonings in the U.S.A. is iron supplements. They make them as brightly colored pills which cause children to eat them. Frederic Vagnini, MD, assistant clinical professor at Weill Cornell Medical College says (page 41 in Bottom Line Yearbook 2008), "Never take a supplement for iron without consulting your physician-- excess iron can accumulate in your major organs and cause severe damage."
Vitamin A and D are not water soluble so they cannot be urinated out. Too much of either one can cause death by liver failure (called hypervitaminosa A and hypervitaminosa D). The liver tries to filter out the toxic things from what you eat. Vitamins and minerals are not foods. People are designed to eat foods.
The FDA does not allow a supplement to contain more than 99 mg of potassium, a mineral. If you go to a nutritionist doctor, they will never give you more than 200 mg of potassium since they know that you may need to be rushed to a hospital. Yet it is okay to eat 2 avocadoes which contain 2,400 mg of potassium, 3 potatoes that have 2,100 mg of potassium or 3 bananas that contain 1,200 mg of potassium. The FDA (see Home Page under water weight for link to this) says to eat more potassium and less sodium.
So it is better to get your vitamins and minerals from foods. You are not what you eat, but what you assimilate. This is easy with stores that sell lots of foods. Vitamins and minerals are chemicals that cost pennies to make. Even ones extracted from foods are extracted with chemical reactions. Plant foods contain thousands of phytochemicals that are great for health. One of these phytochemicals is lycopene which is good for your arteries and preventing cancer. It is the red color in watermelon, tomatoes and red grapefruit.

Greens Drinks Powders

There are many different greens powder drinks and I highly recommend them. This is the fastest growing area of nutrition. Most health enthusiasts use these green drinks instead of vitamin/mineral supplements WHICH ARE NOT FOODS. The Kevin Trudeau weight loss cure protocol from The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About  requires you to use one. You mix them in diluted juice and drink them. For more on this protocol see the Home Page. A vitamin pill may contain about half a gram whereas with these drinks, you drink at least 20 times that amount of the powder (10 grams). Unlike vitamin/mineral supplements, most people can feel a difference from using them. 
The New York Times Bestseller, Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau (© 2004) says
"Do not take vitamins....It is true that you are most assuredly deficient in vitamins and minerals. The best way to correct this deficiency is by juicing. The second best way is to take whole food supplements. These are not vitamin and mineral pills. Whole food supplements simply take organically produced vegetables and fruits and concentrate them into a convenient tablet [the powder is much cheaper] that you can take."
I just came across a testimonial in a magazine. It is by a woman who lost 90 pounds in 90 days. It has before and after pictures and she looked great in the after picture. She said "A lifetime of poor choices left me tipping the scales at 240 pounds. I was sick and bedridden with a variety of symptoms for 2 months. I began drinking 5 to 6 greens drinks a day. [That sounds excessive to me but I guess being 90 pounds overweight is excessive.] The more greens I drank, the stronger I felt and my health challenges, including migraines and vertigo, disappeared. Four years later I've kept all the weight off." A main ingredient in greens drinks is spirulina. It is an appetite suppressant. But I feel that it is really an appetite satisfier due to its very high nutrient profile.
These green drinks contain superfoods. Spirulina is a fresh water sea plant (phytoplankton or algae). Some will say that spirulina is the most nutrient dense superfood since it contains more calcium than milk, more protein than meat or soybeans, more beta-carotene than carrots, more vitamin E than wheat germ, more iron than spinach, more omega-3 fatty acids than fish and more vitamin B-12 than liver. Others argue that barley grass, wheat grass or chlorella are the best superfoods. So they put all of them in the greens drinks and more things, like some have pro-biotics (beneficial bacteria), herbs, and healthy vegetables like broccoli-- all whole foods.
The spirulina and chlorella in the greens drinks contain omega-3 essential fatty acids (see below) since they are algae. Nicholas Perricone, MD wrote The Wrinkle Cure. In his most recent book (a # 1 NY Times bestseller), The Perricone Promise: Look Younger, Live Longer in Three Easy Steps (© 2004), he recommends consuming spirulina, chlorella, wheat grass and barley grass. It also recommends consuming herbs, which are whole foods, but he does not recommend a multi-vitamin or any vitamins.
Some of these taste great mixed with diluted juice. Many times after someone tries it for the first time, they have a strong craving for another glass of it. That means that your body really needs it, so drink another one. This is fine since they are foods, not vitamins or minerals which cost pennies to make. Most of them avoid adding any vitamins or minerals for people who know that they are not foods. You can add carrot juice powder to the above (like I do) to make it taste better and more balanced and get that extra nutrition. Montel Williams has multiple sclerosis and depression but takes no medication. He does drink greens drinks. Mehmet Oz, M.D., author of YOU: the Owners Manual, had Oprah Winfrey try his greens drink.
I also add to mine a powder with fruits and vegetables. It has strawberries, apple flakes, carrot, raspberry, tomato, red bell pepper, okra, kale, blueberry, cranberry, grape, cherry, bilberry, beet and more. Berries are very healthy but they are expensive. Many greens drinks have lecithin as the main ingredient. It is very cheap so they can charge less for it. Even though it is cheap, it is great for the cardiovascular system. You can buy a greens drink with lecithin or get one without it and buy it separately. It costs about $20 for a pound. Only buy the lecithin that says on it non-GMO (not genetically modified). Adding a half of banana to the greens drink makes it taste better plus they are a great source of potassium.
Lecithin has been promoted for cardiovascular health for decades. It comes from soybeans but is also in cabbage, cauliflower, green beans, chickpeas, lentils, corn, split peas and grains. I just came across this. A guy had high blood pressure. The doctor said that he needed surgery to have the plaque stripped from the arteries in his neck. It would cost $10,000 but the machine was down and he had to wait. At a health food store they told him to try lecithin. He took 2 tablespoons a day. When he returned to the doctor, the nurse re-examined him and said that he did not need the surgery since the plaque in his arteries was gone.
What causes heart attacks and strokes is plaque on your artery walls. They make the walls hard and can block the blood flow. The plaque contains oxidized cholesterol. Reducing cholesterol does not remove the plaque. Cholesterol contains lecithin. The good cholesterol (HDL) contains more lecithin than the bad cholesterol (LDL). The more good cholesterol, the better. When enough lecithin is in the cholesterol, it becomes soluble and it dissolves back into your blood and washes away. Although the plaque forms to protect the artery walls. Things that attack the artery walls are the chlorine and fluoride in tap water and homogenized milk. Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids

 Here are other nutrients you should make sure to get especially if you are a vegetarian or vegan that eats no animal products. One important nutrient that people do not get enough of is omega-3 essential fatty acid. These healthy fats lubricate the brain, arteries and skin. It helps people with depression, prevents heart attacks and strokes and helps with skin problems. The President of the U.S.A. (George W Bush) takes it. Low levels of it increase your chance of getting heart attacks or strokes.
People eating plenty of fish like salmon, tuna and sardines get enough omega-3s but are also consuming a lot of mercury since the ocean is so polluted. Fish get them from eating algae. Due to heavy mercury pollution, limit fish and try to avoid the most toxic bigger fish, like tuna (0.35 ppm), and eat smaller fish like sardines (0.016 ppm), salmon (0.014), whitefish (0.069 ppm), trout (freshwater)(0.072 ppm) and flounder (overfished)(0.045 ppm). For more on this see http://gotmercury.org. Fish get their omega-3s from eating algae. Farmed fish that are not fed algae have no omega-3s.
You can get these fish oils but it requires the killing of animals. If you do then make sure that the bottle says "pharmaceutical grade" which is where the pollution has been taken out. You can get omega-3s from flaxseed oil also. I use the milled flaxseeds. These contain lignans which help prevent cancer and the flaxseeds contain a really good fiber for the colon, but the oil is a more concentrated source of omega-3s. I mix them in the above drink but they taste good and you can put them in soup or any dish with a sauce. Flaxseeds are whole foods and cost very little. People used to get plenty of omega-3s from eating a green leaf vegetable called purslane.
The book, More Natural Cures Revealed (© 2006) by Kevin Trudeau says that a magazine about health and healthy lifestyle was being given out to all NBC employees in the Chicago studio. It was telling how flaxseed (linseed) oil was curing breast cancer. Canadian researchers gave muffins with flaxseed oil to women with breast cancer. It was more effective in killing breast cancer cells than any type of radiation or chemotherapy, with no side effects or expensive costs.

Vitamin B-12

This vitamin is not in plant foods as a rule. I say that all rules have exceptions except some. It is in animal foods but eating animal foods causes a greater need for B-12. So many meat eaters and vegetarians have a shortage of this. Spirulina and barley grass  do contain B-12, but it has been found that some people eating these foods still have a shortage of it. So to be sure it is good to take this as a supplement. The best for vitamin B-12 is one that dissolves in your mouth.
The best food source of it may be rotten tea with moldy fungus in it. They sell it in some health food stores. Some call it kombucha mushroom. It is not a mushroom but it is a beneficial bacteria. It produces vitamin B-12, vitamins and other beneficial substances like some beneficial acids. Due to the acids, carbon dioxide and a tiny bit of alcohol, it has a strong taste. It is made in different flavors and the company that makes it is Millennium Products, Inc. The bottle says on the front "Synergy or GTS." The acids in it have a cleansing effect on the body. It comes with healthy juices mixed in like mango, blueberry and lemon. One has spirulina (and another blue-green algae) and chlorella in it. Spirulina contains some omega-3s and vitamin B-12.
The book, Nutrition Almanac (4th edition 1996-- over 2.5 million sold) says "If a person is tired, irritable, nervous, depressed, or even suicidal, suspect a vitamin B deficiency." The greens drinks contain an abundance of B vitamins except for vitamin B-12. This supplement is made differently than the others. Vitamin B-12 is grown on bacteria or mold unlike other vitamins and minerals that are made with (or extracted with) chemicals.
People used to get more vitamin B-12 when they had more bacteria in their diet. There are different forms (analogues) of B-12 and some are inactive. They have not yet tested if the B-12 in the above foods are active or not. A lack of active B-12 can cause too high levels of homocysteine and make the artery walls too thin. This leads to strokes, heart attacks and aneurysms. Meat is not a good source since it causes you to need more. I say "All rules have exceptions except some." That is my rule. Take a supplement of the B-12 that dissolves under the tongue (called sub-lingual). The amount of B-12 that you need is so small that you need about 10 thousand times more of the other vitamins. It is non-toxic so you can take 3 years worth of it in one day. It costs about $5 for a year's supply.

Vitamin D and Sunlight

People do not get enough vitamin D. Without it, the body cannot use the calcium it has. There are no good food sources. The New York Times Bestseller, Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau (© 2004) says "Get natural sunlight. Go for a walk in the sun! Your body needs sunlight. Do not use sunglasses or sun screens. Thirty minutes a day, minimum, promotes incredible health benefits....The solar energy from the sun can be very alkalizing to the body; it reduces depression and strengthens your immune....The sun is good for you and its absolutely needed."
Kevin Trudeau says (in Natural Cures) that lack of sunshine and sleep causes people to become overweight. Many who sunbathe a lot have very smooth skin even at an old age. In the movie Something About Mary, an older woman who sunbathes a lot, has very dry and wrinkled skin. But she also smokes a lot. Smoking causes cross linking in the skin which causes skin to age and wrinkle. Research in England shows the highest rates of skin cancer are among those who are under fluorescent lights a lot and spend no time in sunlight. People in Africa do not get skin cancer and the sunlight is much brighter there. African Americans have the highest rate of skin cancer. I know a couple. The husband is a construction worker who is out in the sun a lot, without a shirt on. His wife is a paralegal who spends time in the office. She, not him, got skin cancer. Both of them smoke. Calcium, Vitamin D and Vitamin K

People think that osteoporosis is from too little calcium but it is now known that you need a trace mineral like boron, vitamin D, magnesium, vitamin K and other things to bring the calcium into the bones. Whereas most Americans die from stroke or heart attacks and the main mineral involved in the clogging of the arteries is calcium. Vitamin K helps to bring the calcium out of the arteries and into the bones. Vitamin K1 comes from seaweed and dark green leafy vegetables. Vitamin K2 is even better at this and the bacteria in your digestive tract is supposed to create this. But for many people, that system is not working right especially if you have taken anti-biotics. The pro-biotics in some of the greens drinks should help with this. Vitamin K2 is found in butter, chicken egg yolk, cow liver, certain cheeses and fermented soybean products such as natto, but natto has much more of it than the other foods.
There is a good chance ninjas ate this since this comes from the time of feudal Japan. It is fermented soybeans and also contains the enzymes pyrazine and nattokinase which are also good for cardiovascular health. Some people like the taste and some do not but the taste can be acquired. Also there are different brands that taste different and it tastes better mixed with things like rice. The internet says that if you like blue cheese that you will love natto. Maybe soon it will be a popular dish in America like sushi which also comes from Japan. There are now vitamin K2 supplements available.
There are alkaline foods and acid foods. This is based on the effect it has on the body. Fruits high in acids like grapefruits are alkaline. Most people eat lots of acid foods and then the body has to take calcium out of the bones to neutralize this acid. Generally the acid forming foods are animal foods and processed foods made by man. Alkaline foods are plant foods made by nature. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and fungus (mushrooms) are made by nature. Bread, ice cream and cheese and not made by nature. Salt is made by nature but is not a food.
The clogging of the arteries could be caused by a substance in homogenized milk called XO. So it is better to avoid this and get dairy (if you have to have it) from other sources where the milk is not homogenized. Also the hormones in milk is fattening. So you can get organic milk products or even better goat's milk products. Also raw is better so you can get raw goat's milk cheese from Whole Foods. They also have goat's milk yogurt where the milk is not homogenized. It is not raw but has the good bacteria in it.

Trace Minerals

Foods grown on depleted soil are very low in trace minerals. Foods grown on good soil are low in trace minerals. Sea plants (seaweeds) are high in trace minerals since the sea is loaded with trace minerals. Spirulina has a lot more trace minerals than land plants but they may be low in some trace minerals. So it is good to eat a sea plant (seaweed) from the ocean like kelp. They sell granulated kelp in shaker bottles and you shake it on food like salt. It contains salt naturally and you can use it in place of salt since it is a food. It is very high in trace minerals including iodine. Salt and sea salt are not foods. Ingredients in Greens Drinks

In addition to spirulina, the greens drinks contain barley grass. This was created when a scientist searched for the most nutritious and most nutrient dense land plant. He found that people drinking this would get many benefits. Others think that wheat grass is the most nutritious superfood and it is juiced in many fresh juice shops around the country. Then others think that alfalfa grass is the best superfood. Alfalfa leaves are herbs that have many medicinal benefits like helping the liver. So all the above are put in the greens drinks.
Many people have heard that is important to eat your greens. I love the taste of cooked greens. I eat spinach, kale, collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, chard and escarole. They taste better with black eye peas are added to them. Five bowls of raw greens make 1 bowl of cooked greens, but the raw greens are healthier since they contain the enzymes that are destroyed (killed) by cooking. But the cooked ones are a more concentrated source of nutrients. These grasses are more nutritious than the above greens. They juice them and dry them into a powder so they are a concentrated source of greens nutrients and they have lots of enzymes since they are not heated. 
They have a lot of chlorophyll in them which have a cleansing effect on the body. The chlorophyll is the blood of the plant and makes it green. A molecule of plant blood is just like your blood except the chlorophyll has an iron atom in the center whereas your blood has a copper atom at the center of the molecule. Some people think that they need to eat meat, since they are made of meat. But all a young cow needs to become a 1,000 pound cow is to eat grass. So when you eat beef, you get the second hand grass. This is the healthier beef but most beef is from cows that are fed grains since it is cheaper.
Some people think that chlorella is the best superfood. It is similar to spirulina. Spirulina is a blue-green phytoplankton or algae whereas chlorella is a green algae. Because of this, chlorella has more chlorophyll than spirulina which itself has more chlorophyll than any land plant. Also spirulina doubles its size in 3 or 4 days but chlorella doubles its size every 2 days. This is due to the chlorella growth factor (CGF) which has a great effect on the health of people. It is very high in nutrients like spirulina so it is also in the greens drinks.
So why do some people think that spirulina is the best? The blue pigment that it is in it, has a very beneficial effect on humans and animals. Spirulina has been used by people and their pets for decades with great results. Millions of people died for us to learn about spirulina. At the end of World War II, the U.S. dropped 2 atom bombs on Japan. The bombs had the code names "Fat Man" and "Little Boy." Both worked and all the people around them were instantly dead. Those that were farther way were dying slowly due to radiation poisoning.
So the Japanese did research to find something that could help and they found spirulina. They found the sodium alginate in the spirulina could help the body deal with the radiation. The Japanese have been using spirulina for decades and they are the country with 2nd longest living people in the world according to written recorded birth records. Okinawa is an island off of Japan and they have the longest living people in the world. I am not saying that the spirulina is the only reason for this. They are health oriented and also use chlorella. They eat a lot of soybeans and they eat less food than Americans.
Some greens drinks contain soy lecithin. It is cheap ingredient so adding it can bring down the cost of the drink. But some do not add it since it is not as healthy as the expensive ingredients like spirulina. The lecithin does help you to have a better memory and it helps cleanse the arteries. If you buy a greens drink without it, you could always buy it separately for very little cost and add it. Each greens drink add other whole foods that they feel are the healthiest to consume.
Spirulina is blue green algae. Blue green algae is technically neither a plant nor an animal. It is cyano-bacteria. It existed before plants and animals. Billions of years ago the only life that existed on the earth was blue green algae and there was no oxygen in the air. The blue green algae put the oxygen in the air. There is blue green algae living in freezing waters where it is too cold for other life to exist and also in volcanic water where it is too hot for any other life to exist. In a movie about Mars, they shoot nuclear warheads into the ice to melt it and then ship blue green algae there to put oxygen into the atmosphere of mars. It is the simplest form of life and you are the most complex form of life.

Introduction

Hippocrates said "let food be your medicine." This information comes from the U. S. Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) database website with research from its chief botanist, Dr James Duke. The different benefits like antiaging, antiADD, anticancer and antiarthritic are called activities. Grapes have phytochemicals helping over 800 different activities. "Drugs only suppress symptoms, and they cause disease because they are toxic."

"A positive effect of UVB exposure is that it induces the production of vitamin D in the skin. It has been estimated that tens of thousands of premature deaths occur in the United States annually from a range of cancers due to vitamin D deficiency." They are thousands of phytochemicals (chemicals in plants that produce an effect on the human body) that have these activities in hundreds of plants. They have already identified over 900 phytochemicals. You may have heard of some phytochemicals. There is lycopene which is in tomatoes, watermelons and red grapefruit which helps with heart health.

There are indole-3-carbinols in cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower which helps prevent cancer. Then there is resveratrol (helps cardio health) which they say is in red wine so it is OK to give wine to little kids. It is not in the alcohol part from fermentation which destroys brain cells and hurts the liver. It is in the skin of red grapes and in grape juice. Also it is in blueberries, cranberries and peanuts. 

There are about 15 vitamins and 70 minerals but there are thousands of phytochemicals that are beneficial for health. People do not inherit these diseases but inherit a predisposition (tendency) toward getting certain diseases. So if you have that, use these plant foods to help prevent those diseases. Try to get organically grown produce with more nutrients and no pesticides. Does anyone think that pesticides are healthy for little kids? In Russia it is a crime to sell produce grown with pesticides.
You can mix endive, cabbage, tomato, onions and basil leaf together for an antiaging dish. Kevin Trudeau says to see a few holistic healers so they can find the cause of your problem and treat it. Cancer (in general)

The USDA website addresses the different types of cancer. Fasting does not work well with cancer. What works the best is the "grape cure". With this you eat only grapes for 2 or 3 months and nothing else.  You can have a little prune juice to help elimination. They suggest you fast 2 days on water before starting the grape cure. PDR stands for Physician's Desk Reference. It is a huge book that doctors use to look up any medication. The PDR Family Guide to Nutrition and Health (1995 by Medical Economics Company [It is 800 pages]) says "In 1991, based on the overwhelming scientific findings, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) began a national '5 A Day for Better Health' campaign to encourage a consumption of 5 or more servings of fruits or vegetables daily." It also said "In the mid-1970s researchers found that some groups of people in Africa with high fiber consumption (more than 10 times greater than American averages) had extremely low rates of colon cancer."
The PDR Family Guide to Nutrition and Health also says (page 227) "According to Dr. John Potter [M.D., Ph.D., professor at U of WA], director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, the best evidence available today indicates that vegetables and fruits are the nutritional stars in prevention of most major types of cancer."
It also says "No sooner had President George Bush revealed to the American public that he hated broccoli than scientists announced the discovery of a chemical [phytochemical] called sulforaphane that had a strong preventative effect against cancer in laboratory animals." Broccoli and related vegetables also contain indole-3-carbonols, isothyocyanates, and cyanohydroxybutene (CHB) that fight cancer according to the above book. It also says "Several population studies also conclude that people who consume diets high in olive oil have low rates of cancer." 
A study with 300 people showed that as the consumption of plant foods went up 20%, the cancer rates dropped 20%. As cruciferous vegetable intake went up 20%, the cancer rates dropped 40%. Cruciferous vegetables are those in the cabbage family. They include arugula (a green), bok choy, broccoli, broccoli rabe, brocolina, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi, mache, mustard greens, radish, red cabbage, rutabaga, turnips, turnip greens and watercress. They contain the phytochemical, indole-3-carbinol.
Broccoli sprouts are said to be 20 times better than broccoli in preventing cancer. Four ounces of broccoli sprouts cost about $2.50. Then you can get the same size for about $4.50. The latter is Brocco Sprouts broccoli sprouts. The John Hopkins University School of Medicine found that the sulforaphane GS (sgs) in broccoli sprouts "may reduce the risk of cancer, a disease of many factors" according to their group, the Brassica Foundation. So they bred broccoli high in this phytochemical and patented it.
Great Health magazine (September 2008) says "A new study published in Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention found that a group of nonsmokers and smokers, who ate an average of 3 or more servings of raw cruciferous vegetables a month lowered their risk of developing bladder cancer by 40%. For nonsmokers alone, the risk reduction was a whopping 73%. This result was not seen with cooked veggies, indicating that some anti-cancer properties of cruciferous vegetables are destroyed in cooking."
I read that one way to get rid of cancer is eating all raw foods. This refers to raw vegan foods not raw meat or fish. Another health expert said to avoid getting cancer take like 3 to 5 days every few months where you eat only raw foods. All the animals other than man eat raw foods. It is rare for animals in nature to get cancer but most pets (they eat cooked food) get cancer. But 85% raw will work just as well. Instead of drinking water, drink white or green tea (decaf is possible). They have EGCG in it. Among other things, EGCG has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in the British Journal of Cancer, help breast cancer patients as reported in Cancer Science, and increase 24 hour thermogenesis (fat burning) in a study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
In 1994, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea lowered the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by almost 60%. University of Purdue researchers recently found that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells.
Also many say that negative emotions are associated with cancer especially with issues of forgiving others and forgiving your self. So this means that hate causes cancer. Also I have seen these strange things with cancer, where people have cured their cancer using natural methods and then went back to an unhealthy lifestyle. The things that cause cancer are manmade not things in nature like sunlight. Personal care products that people put on their skin have many cancer causing chemicals. Read the above in what Kevin Trudeau says about sunlight. Sunbathing will cause you to sweat out cancer causing chemicals. Then when water evaporates, the chemicals build up on your skin so make sure to wash them off after sunbathing.
Wikipedia Encyclopedia says "A positive effect of UVB exposure is that it induces the production of vitamin D in the skin. It has been estimated that tens of thousands of premature deaths occur in the United States annually from a range of cancers due to vitamin D deficiency." The cancer researcher Dr. Bruce Ames, was a member of the board of directors of the National Cancer Institute. He says "The degenerative diseases of aging such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, cataracts, and brain dysfunction, are increasingly found to have, in good part, an oxidative origin. It is argued that dietary antioxidants, such as Vitamins C and E and carotenoids, play a major role in minimizing this damage and that most of the world's population is receiving inadequate amounts of them, at a great cost to health. According to a naturopathic physician many physical and psychological problems can cause insomnia. Also many medications can cause insomnia. He says that nicotine (from smoking) and alcohol can cause insomnia. If you wake up between 2AM and 4AM then you could have a liver problem which can be caused by many things including alcohol. He suggests doing a liver cleanse. The best liver cleanse is fasting.
Carbohydrates from your diet raise serotonin levels naturally, and as a result, they effectively act like a natural tranquilizer, relieving depression, and improving mood. The following comes from Great Health magazine (September 2008 issue). Use tumeric. This herb is one of the main herbs in curry. Indians use lots of curry and get dementia less than people in other countries. It contains the phytochemical curcumin. You can take 400mg daily of curcumin supplements.
Eat blueberries. It has ellagic acid (another phytochemical) in it. Consume omega-3 fatty acids. Best sources are some fish, flaxseed and chia seeds. Consume plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and green tea. Take 60mg twice daily of ginkgo biloba. It contains gingkgosides. 
Exercise a minimum of  30 minutes daily. People always ask me if you cannot do or get the recommended amount, does that mean that you should do or get nothing (all or nothing). No! Get whatever you can. That is like someone asking if they cannot make $1,000 weekly, does that mean that they should make nothing. Thirty minutes of exercise, 3 times a week is 500 times better than no exercise.
Here is more information from other MDs. Take a tablespoon of lecithin daily (non-GMO) (not genetically modified). It is cheap, about $20 for a pound. It is good for the brain and helps short term memory. People have been taking it for decades. It is great for cleaning out plaque from the arteries. A drug for this, Namenda, costs about $4.50 a day and a side effect of it is confusion. Lithium is a mineral. You can get it at health food stores as lithium aspartate or orotate. It costs around 25 cents a day to use. It is better than that drug for dementia.
